LED solar street lights are light sources powered by photovoltaic panels, mounted near on the pole of the solar street light fixture. The photovoltaic panels charge the solar batteries during the day and light up the streets and roadways at night.
The main objective of this project is to implement an auto-intensity control of LED-based-street light system interfaced to the Arduino board. As the traffic decreases slowly during late-night hours, the intensity gets reduced progressively till morning to save energy and thus, the street lights switch on at the dusk and then switch off at the dawn, automatically.
Solar Street lights all use LED light bulbs, which run much cooler so there is also lower odds of overheating. Since solar street lights don't have outside wires, the safety risk is very low. Solar street lights are also an advantage to the environment, reducing our carbon footprint and helping everyone breathe easier.
